Maybe you've outgrown your home. Maybe you want to upgrade your living space. Should you remodel and add on to our current home? Should you buy an already built home? Should you build a custom home specially designed for your needs and lifestyle?

These are some very important questions and homeowners often find it difficult to determine what's best for them. There are many things to consider and many opinions as to what people should and shouldn't do when it comes to building or remodeling a home. Here are a few things to consider when evaluating your options.

The first thing you need to do is determine your goals for you new home. Where you want to live and what size and style home you want. Establish a budget and prioritize your goals keeping your budget in mind. What would you be willing to give up if the budget doesn’t afford you that option? Once you've determined the minimum requirements for your home, you need to which option will get you what you want for the least. After all, nobody wants to spend more than is necessary to get what they want.

Should You Remodel?

Should You Buy Or Custom Build Your New Home?

So you've decided you need to move into a new home. Should you buy one that is already available or should you build a custom home specially designed for you? Before embarking on the long and arduous journey of building, you should first exhaust the options available for purchase. Sometimes finding the home of your dreams is just not possible. Then building a custom home is the answer for you.

So Now You Want To Build Your New Home – What’s Next?

The next step is deciding what kind of home you would like to build. Browsing through home and real estate magazines is a good start. The internet is also a great resource to get great ideas about your home's style and function. Once you have a general idea of the type of home you like, you should try to see some similar ones in your area. They don't need to be identical, but you can go down to a model home and see if you like or dislike certain features. Taking pictures of things you like is also a good idea.

Building a home is not a small project. You need to make many decisions and choose from an unlimited amount of available options. One of the first decisions you need to make is where you would like to locate your new home and purchasing the land is the next big step. You should, of course, have a general idea of what kind of land you want, but don't automatically filter out properties that don't exactly fit your search criteria. Keep in mind how much backyard space you would like, how big the house is you are planning on building, and what you are going to use the land for. For example, do you plan on putting in a swimming pool? How about having animals on your property? Would you like a little privacy from the neighbors, or just a good view? What local amenities are important as well as what schools and services are available. Take the time to consider your options and evaluate what's available to you.

Next, you'll need to decide whether or not you have the time and resources to handle entire project yourself or would you want to hire someone to represent you such as a general contractor or custom home builder. If you have a general idea of the design you want but consider the function of the home and the project duration is more important, then the design-build method may be best for you. The Plans

Before any home can be built, architectural plans must be prepared and provided to the contractor that will manage the construction of your home. Hiring an architect is an important step and can be very expensive. You can hire an architect directly or we can provide one for you. However, an architect can charge you 15 to 20 percent of the home's value for a custom design. There are hundreds and even thousands of prepackaged designs such as NEED TO PUT A LINK TO THE EPLANS AFFILIATE CONNECTION. Each plan can be customized to suit your needs and design preferences. It's fast, easy and affordable. We can work with any firm on your behalf and handle the customizations for you.
